SpreadsheetWEB supports connecting to a Web Service from inside Excel via a SpreadsheetWEB specific worksheet formula. The purpose of this feature is to bring data into an Excel file from external Web Services. An example can be getting real time stock prices for a given stock. SpreadsheetWEB will then maintain the web service connection in the Excel file when converted into a web application.

The SpreadsheetWEB add-on includes a wizard to help users connect to a web service. This feature can be found in the SpreadsheetWEB ribbon.

"Insert Web Service" option in the SpreadsheetWEB menu.

The user will be prompted in the first step to insert a WSDL Address for the web service as well as a Username and Password if it is necessary.

Prompt to enter a WSDL Address, Username and Password.

After the user presses "Next," the wizard will connect to the web service provided by the WSDL Address and allow the user the select from a range of service methods and operations that the web service provides.

Select an operation from this menu.

The third step will enable the user to select input cells in Excel that will correspond to certain necessary values as deemed by the web service operation. By clicking on the button next to the defined input ranges, the user can select a cell within Excel that will correlate.

Define the input and output ranges in the Excel spreadsheet.

After defining all of the input ranges and the output range, the Finish button will become enabled. Upon pressing the Finish button, results from the web service will be written into the cells starting with the output selection.
