'Number' Formatting

Formatting cells in SpreadsheetLIVE is as simply as selecting the cells that you would like to format, selecting 'Format' from the main tab bar (located near the top of the SpreadsheetLIVE workbook user interface) and selecting 'Cells'.

This will bring you to the cell formatting options. The 'Number' section allows you to choose from several different options for formatting the cell. These include:

  • General
  • Number
  • Currency
  • Accounting
  • Date
  • Time
  • Percentage
  • Fraction
  • Scientific
  • Text
  • Custom

General

The 'General' option is the default cell format for all cells. It has no specific options, allowing you to input any form of data into a cell.

Number

The 'Number' option formats the cell as a number. The interface provides several options in specifying exactly how the numbers should be displayed. You are able to (1) change the amount of numbers that are calculated after the decimal, (2) automatically placing a comma that separates the thousands (e.g. 1,000,000 as opposed to 1000000) and (3) how negative numbers are displayed (i.e. with a minus sign before the number or two parenthesis around the number).

Currency

The 'Currency' option formats the cell as currency. The interface provides several options in specifying exactly how the numbers are displayed. You are able to (1) define the amount of numbers that come after the decimal point, (2) define the type of currency (Note: the dollar and the euro are currently available) and (3) alter how negative numbers are displayed (i.e. with a minus sign before the number or two parenthesis around the number).

Accounting

The 'Accounting' option formats the cell as an accounting figure. The interface provides several options in specifying exactly how the numbers are displayed. You are able to (1) define the amount of numbers that come after the decimal point and (2) define the type of currency (Note: the dollar and the euro are currently available).

Date

The 'Date' option formats the cell as a date. Here, you are able to define the visual format of the date.

Time

The 'Time' option formats the cell as a time. Here, you are able to define the visual format of the time.

Percentage

The 'Percentage' option formats the cell as a percentage. Here, you are able to define the amount of numbers visible after the decimal point.

Fraction

The 'Fraction' option formats the cell as a fraction. Here, you are able to define the visual format of the fraction.

Scientific

The 'Scientific' option formats the cell as a scientific number (e.g. instead of 1,000,000 it would display 1.0E+06). Here, you are able to define how many digits will be visible after the decimal point.

Text

The 'Text' option formats the cell as text. There are no specific options for this format. The input will simply be shown as text (i.e. a formula such as "=1+1" will show up as that exactly text as opposed to the calculated value "2").

Custom

The 'Custom' option allows you to define a custom cell format. The options are available in this menu and you can define the format to fit any necessary specifications.
